I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, Ologies, and they always give a donation to a charity of the ologists choosing.
I was inspired to check out the Trolleyologist’s charity and set up a monthly donation.
The charity is Giving Multiplier, and its mission is to encourage donations to “super effective” charities by combining people’s desire to do the most good and to give to a cause that is personally significant.
I have been feeling so lost as to what I can do right now, and this gave me some hope. With even a small donation, I can both give to something highly meaningful and highly effective. And through the matching fund, I can encourage others to do the same.
If you choose to donate here, you can donate in two ways. In both, you are directing a portion of your money to a personal charity and the rest to select super effective charities. You can either choose which super charity matched funds go to, or you can donate to the pool of matchable funding.
In short, with a portion of your donation you can either contribute to the pot of money that goes to charity, or you can choose where the pot of money goes to.
To be honest, it took me a couple read throughs to understand, but the gist is your money goes to a personal and an effective charity while encouraging others to donate in a similar fashion with a matching system.
If you already donate on a monthly basis to a personal charity or have been wanting to set one up, I think Giving Multiplier has a great donor portal where you can clearly manage monthly donations and easily make changes to which charities you want to give to.
So if you want to change your personal charity from month to month, you can easily do so without having to create a new monthly donation. You can donate to an LGBTQ+ charity for pride and a racial justice charity for Black history month without changing your super effective charity choice.
So if you feel inspired by this post and this model of donation, you can donate using my link for a higher match rate!
If you are not convinced or still confused, read more on their website about why Giving Multiplier might be right for your charitable donations.

If you are only interested in donating to super effective charities, look at Give Well. They extensively research the most effective charities and allow donors to give money in multiple ways to support them. You can donate directly to one of their top charities, or donate to grants that allow them to allocate the money to wherever it is most needed.
Leave a comment if you used the link and tell me what charities you donated to!
